Interviews

Are you a resident of Treasure Beach or the surrounding communities of southern St Elizabeth?

Do you consider yourself to have some knowledge or the southern St Elizabeth history?

We are looking for residents of Treasure Beach and the wider southern St Elizabeth community to complete an interview for research on the history of the region. This project will help flesh out our knowledge of the understudied southern St Elizabeth history and will develop our understanding of the complex multicultural layers of the population. The aim is to create a space for a wider range of representations of the southern St Elizabeth history.

For the purposes of this study, southern St Elizabeth is defined as the region highlighted in this map:

You will be asked to undertake an audio-recorded interview which will take up to 1 hour and will be guided by a set of questions. Your contact details will be taken (email, phone number, and address) and you will then be kept up to date on the research and how your interview will contribute to the project. The interview will take place within your home or within a public area of your choosing. You may ask for someone to accompany you although they must keep quiet during the interview. A photograph of you will be taken at the end of the interview. Please remember that you do not have to answer any questions that you do not want to.

The research will be published as a PhD manuscript, with the potential to be published as a book, and on a website established to facilitate local community access to the research. The interviews and accompanying transcripts will also be donated to the Jamaica Memory Bank in Kingston (an oral history archive) where future researchers and members of the public will be able to access them. Your name, age, and general area of residence (bay of Treasure Beach or town in southern St Elizabeth) will be published within the research alongside your photo so that the content of your interview can be attributed to you.

If you are considering becoming an interviewee, or would just like some more information on the interviews, please contact us.
